Filip “Chibs” Telford (Tommy Flanagan) (not “Chip”) was appointed SAMCRO’s sergeant-at-arms by Jax in the 4th season finale. Chibs is extremely loyal to Jax. He is originally from Glasgow, Scotland but grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland and served as a medic with the British Army. This, however, only lasted five months and Chibs was expelled after a court martial. His battlefield experience makes him the club’s medic for backroom emergency surgery. The word “chib” is Scottish street slang for a blade, a slash or a cut (a “chibbing” is usually a disfiguring facial attack with a knife or similar sharp object). Chibs was seriously injured by a car bomb explosion at the club’s garage. His estranged wife Fiona, and daughter Kerrianne currently live in Ireland. Chibs was originally a member of the True IRA, but a conflict with Jimmy O over his wife Fiona forced him to leave Ireland.
